It was yet another slow day for the Calgary Flames members at the World Championship. Nonetheless, let’s check out what went down today.
It’s been a really slow last couple of days for hockey, especially with no playoff hockey on either. But we’re still here to bring some updates. It was yet another slow day for the Calgary Flames at the World Championship, but we’ve still got an update.
Mikael Backlund was the lone Flame playing today at the Worlds for Team Sweden. Sweden had their fourth consecutive regulation win with yet another dominating 7-0 victory over the Austrians. They only let Austria get 13 shots on them all game. A little upsetting that Backlund didn’t get any points, but I’ll live. Backlund today went 8/14 in faceoffs and sits in fifth place at the tournament with faceoffs won with 36.
With another win, Sweden bumped up to first in Group A with 12 points in four games. Switzerland won 6-1 against Belarus today, but remain in third place in Group A. Denmark beat the Fins 3-2 in regulation today to also keep their fifth-place spot on Group B. It’s a good thing for both USA and Canada that the first place Finland lost in regulation today. They now have just one point on the Americans and two on the Canadians, but USA and Canada each have a game on hand.
Germany beat the Koreans 6-1 to bump up to the sixth place spot in Group B. Poor Korea, they have yet to win a game at the tournament.

Tomorrow will be a better day for Flames players at the tournament with Bill Peters for Team Canada, Johnny Gaudreau for Team USA, and David Rittich for Team Czech Republic all in action. USA and Canada each have a chance to get ahead while the Czechs are trying to keep that fourth-place spot.
