Two members of the Calgary Flames were in action in the second last day of the preliminary round. Let’s check out how each one did.

Only one more day of the preliminary round of the World Championship before the playoffs start! I’d use an emoji right now if I could. Two members of the Calgary Flames were in action today. Bill Peters coaching Team Canada and David Rittich between the pipes for the Czech Republic.

Rittich got the day off in today’s 4-3 win over Team Austria. The Czechs got an early 2-0 lead before the three-minute mark in the first period and the Austrians couldn’t quite completely catch up. With that win, the Czechs have 15 points in seven games and have clinched that third spot in Group A. No matter what happens, they’re in third place.

We then have Bill Peters for Team Canada who hasn’t been as successful and dominating as Canada has been. In what was expected to be a somewhat easy game against the Latvians, it went to overtime. Canada managed to win with an overtime goal from Connor McDavid to bring them up to 12 points in six games.

Canada hasn’t necessarily been playing poorly, but they’ve had quite subpar goaltending the entire tournament. But I guess Peters is quite used to that.

Canada sits in third place in Group B but could end up not making the quarter-finals if they lose tomorrow and Latvia and Denmark both win. They could also finish in second place if Finland loses and Canada wins tomorrow.

Next: Prospect Update - C Matthew Phillips

Team Canada will face Team Germany tomorrow, Johnny Gaudreau for Team USA will face Team Finland tomorrow, and Mikael Backlund captaining Team Sweden will play Team Russia tomorrow. If all goes according to plan for Canada tomorrow, like I mentioned, then it seems like all four Flames members at the World Championship this year will make it to the next round.
