The Calgary Flames made a blockbuster trade with the Carolina Hurricanes involving Dougie Hamilton, Micheal Ferland, Adam Fox, Elias Lindholm, and Noah Hanifin.

Well, this turned out to be a horrible day. Listen, I know we were all bored yesterday and were asking for a trade, but we DIDN’T MEAN THIS. The Calgary Flames have traded D Dougie Hamilton, F Micheal Ferland, and prospect D Adam Fox to the Carolina Hurricanes for D Noah Hanifin and F Elias Lindholm.

It’s quite a lopsided trade with Calgary definitely losing. Flames Twitter is absolutely in shambles right now, so I’d advise to not go on Twitter right now (I’ve been crying on there for the last hour).

People on Twitter have been saying that Dougie is a better defenceman than Hanifin and Ferland is a better forward than Lindholm. Then throwing Fox into the mix really makes no sense at all. But I guess this just shows how much say new coach Bill Peters has after all.

I know we’re all upset, but let’s see how each of these players did last season.

Hanifin had 10 goals and 22 points last season in 79 games and had a CF% of 56.5%, which I guess is good news seeing how he was on the second pairing. Lindholm had 16 goals and 44 points in 81 games on the second line last season.

Lindholm is a centerman, but he has played on the wing before. It’ll be interesting to see if he stays at center and plays on the third line, meaning the Flames may make a move involving Mark Jankowski, or they may try him on the wing on the first or second line and maybe move Michael Frolik down to the third line.

of course, he can also play on the third line wing, but with the number of minutes he’s used to playing, he’s most likely going to be a top-six.

I’m still not over that initial shock if I’m being honest. I know there were rumours surrounding Dougie but I didn’t think there was any substance to them. I really resonate with this Reba McEntire Tweet from 2010 right now.

I guess we all got what we asked for when we asked for some excitement this draft. Be careful what you wish for.
