One of the more anticipated signings for this off-season is finally done. The Calgary Flames have signed Elias Lindholm to a six-year deal.

Since the end of the frenzy of free-agency, one of the most anticipated RFA signings for the Calgary Flames this off-season was to get a deal done for C/RW Elias Lindholm. Lindholm was brought to Calgary in a trade that sent Dougie Hamilton, Micheal Ferland, and Adam Fox to the Carolina Hurricanes.

Many people anticipated this signing to be at least $5 million, but the Flames managed to convince him on a good deal. An AAV of $4.85 million for six years. Per multiple sources, this signing also includes no bonuses and no clauses. This is quite the good deal for the Flames, so good job Brad Treliving. Haven’t wanted to say that for about a month now (still not over Dougie leaving).

Last season, Lindholm put up 16 goals and 44 points in 81 games in a top-six role. For the last four seasons, Lindholm has spent most of his time in the top-six. It’s still somewhat in the grey are of whether he will be on that top line or the second line, so we’ll have to wait and see. Bill Peters has said he would like to see James Neal play with Matthew Tkachuk, but imagine a line of James Neal, Sean Monahan, and Johnny Gaudreau. It really would be *chef kissing fingers*.

The Flames now have $8,013,290 to sign about seven more RFAs, with Noah Hanifin most likely having the steepest price-tag. If he signs above $3 million, I’m not so sure if they’ll be able to afford everyone left. And we also have to consider that they’ll have to give Matthew Tkachuk an extension this upcoming season, and that will also be around $5-6 million.

Can’t we just get rid of Troy Brouwer‘s contract and pretend it never existed?
