There are only 57 days until the season starts! Let’s check out a player who played just one game for the Calgary Flames – Tomi Maki.

There are only 57 days until the season starts meaning we’ve got another former Calgary Flames player to look at! We’ve got another player that may be making you scratch your head asking, “who?” With 57 days left, let’s check out #57 Tomi Maki.

Maki played in just one game for the Flames where he had no points and spent about 11 minutes on the ice. Since that one game, he played in one more season for the Flames farm team before eventually calling it quits in North America.

Prior to playing for the Flames, Maki played for Jokerit of the Finnish SM-Liiga. After leaving the Flames, he decided to return to a familiar team and play for Jokerit again. He’s been playing for Jokerit for the past ten seasons and is on their roster for this upcoming season, although Jokerit is part of the KHL now. He signed an extension with the team back in April, although the article is all in Finnish, so I’m not quite sure about the details of the contract. But, after some rough translations through Google, it seems like it may just be for one season.

I knew I should have learned some Finnish.

Maki seems to be on quite the decline since 2012 when Jokerit won the SM-Liiga Bronze Medal. Since then, he hasn’t put up the points he once has in the league. He’s also played in many tournaments for Jokerit since rejoining the club, including four European Trophy and two Spengler Cups.

Next. Troy Brouwer's buyout was necessary for the wrong reasons. dark

While he’s 34 years old and probably has a few more years kicking, he may have to hang up his skates soon. Hailing from Finland and spending the majority of his career and life there, he’ll most likely continue to reside in Finland when his playing career is over, unless some NHL team hires him, which seems quite unlikely (no offence, Maki).
