Calgary Flames reduce roster, place players on waivers, release PTOs
The Calgary Flames have made plenty of roster changes on Wednesday morning during their training camp. Let’s check out all the changes made.
The Calgary Flames continue to reduce their roster after last night’s exciting comeback win against the San Jose Sharks. On Wednesday morning, they released/sent down 17 players. Later in the afternoon, they released four more PTOs. We first learned of this news when Twitter notified every one of players put on waivers, with five of them coming from Calgary.
Those players were all assigned to waivers with the purpose of re-assigning to the Stockton Heat, their AHL affiliate. Although there are no surprises there, Buddy Robinson has looked quite good on a line with Dillon Dube and Andrew Mangiapane and that line has been fun to watch.
Mangiapane and Dube continue in training camp with the Flames with many fans hoping for Dube to earn a spot on the roster this season. Although Bill Peters has said that Dube may not be making the opening-night roster, the question isn’t of if he’ll make the roster, it’s just when. Meaning we can most likely find Dube as an NHLer this season.
On top of those waivers, the Calgary Flames also released four players of their PTO’s: Gilbert Brule, Jeff Glass, Ryan Sproul and Viktor Svedberg. Later in the afternoon, the Flames then released Phillip Samuelsson, Justin Falk, Duncan Siemens, and Logan Shaw from their PTOs as well. They have all been invited to attend the Heat’s training camp. The Flames no longer have any PTOs remaining.
The players assigned back to Stockton are Spencer Foo, Glenn Gawdin, Oliver Kylington, Ryan Lomberg, Adam Ollas Mattsson, Tyler Parsons, Matthew Phillips, and Brett Pollock. Most notable players were definitely Foo and Kylington.
The Flames have now trimmed their training camp roster down to 29 players: 16 forwards, 10 defencemen, and three goaltenders. They’ll have to cut it down to 23 players by next Tuesday, and we’ll probably get some more cuts after Thursday’s tilt against the Sharks.
