The 2026 NHL Draft is heavy on talented, skillful wingers, and even though the Calgary Flames are full of them, you can never have too many talented players up front as you look to rebuild and get back into the Stanley Cup Playoffs.

On such player is Ethan Belchetz, who has been rumoured to go anywhere from No. 8 overall down to No. 20, and give the Flames reported desire to move up, he could be a player that falls far enough for the Flames to make a play at.

Regardless of whether or not he's high on Calgary'd draft board, today, we'll look into Ontario native Ethan Belchetz, who has the potential to be an absolute steal for an NHL team in the 2026 NHL Draft.

Like most prospects, Belchetz took a major leap forward during his two years in the OHL, doubling his goal tally while posting 59 points in 57 games as he became a bigger part of the Windsor Spitfires gameplan during the 2025/26 campaign. On top of that, Belchetz stayed very healthy, playing in 56 and 57 games across two seasons, and with good size at 6-foot-5, it's rare to see a player have no major injuries to worry about heading into the draft process.

One drawback of playing for a poor Spitfires team is the lack of playoff experience, so we haven't yet seen Belchetz in big games without a WJC or playoffs appearance, but based on the numbers available, there is plenty of promise there.

Strengths

Plenty of wingers in the 2026 NHL Draft lack significant size, but that's no issue for the 6-foot-5, 228 pound Belchetz, although that phyiscality doesn't mean he sacrifices any skill. Especially in tight spaces, Belchetz has fantastic stick handling that allows him plenty of room to work with his massive frame, and with the agility to go along with it, he's got plenty of tools at his disposal.

As for the shot, it may not be the most powerful in the draft, but it's certainly one of the most accurate, and given how well he's able to get it off in many different situations, he's at least got one or two major strengths to lean on as a big time prospect.
