The 2025/26 NHL season has just concluded, with the Carolina Hurricanes winning their first Stanley Cup since 2006. Unfortunately, once more, the Calgary Flames did not feature in the Stanley Cup Playoffs, and it appears as though that could be the case for several more seasons moving forward.
That leads us into the off-season, with the Flames hoping that the 2026 NHL Draft, free agency and the trade period can help push the rebuild forward, with the team aspiring to add more draft capital and young names for the future of the organization.
Already though, there are announcements coming through about the 2026/27 campaign, with the Flames taking to social media on Thursday to officially announce a shortened pre-season schedule.

With the regular season schedule expanding to 84 games in 2026/27 and beyond, the pre-season has been shortened, with the team set to play the Seattle Kraken twice, with single matchups against both the Edmonton Oilers and Vancouver Canucks. The pre-season will be played between September 20th and 26th, with two home games followed by two road games, with the team now having even less opportunities to get their rookies and young prospects a chance to prove themselves against NHL competition.
Still, this will be a chance for the Flames to find their combinations, get young guys a look and decide the outlook of this team for the 2026/27 campaign, and while it's still three months away, the reveal of the schedule should help build excitement among the Flames fanbase for what could be a bad, but exciting season ahead for the youth movement.
