2025 NHL Draft: G Joshua Ravensbergen
The 2025 NHL Draft was one of the most intriguing in NHL history, and with the Flames moving back into the first-round, there's a chance that they had discussions to move up to the No. 30 overall pick with the San Jose Sharks. Clearly though, the Sharks had other plans and instead went with goaltender Joshua Ravensbergen out of the WHL, and at 19-years-old, he's shaping up as a potential star of the future.
In 2025/26 for the Prince George Cougars, Ravensbergen went 32-13-0 with an impressive 2.51 GAA and a .919 save percentage, and in the playoffs he took it to another level, posting a .918 across 12 games played. At 6-foot-5 with immense agility, Ravensbergen was the clear cut best goaltender in the draft class, and while the Flames won't use their pick on a goaltender, this shows the type of player that could be available for the Flames on June 26th.
2024 NHL Draft: D E.J. Emery
In 2024, the New York Rangers opted to go with size on the blue line, as they drafted 6-foot-2 defenseman E.J. Emery out of the US National Development Team. Since then, he's spent two seasons with several Flames prospects at the University of North Dakota, where the offense has struggled to come along, as he has just 3 goals and 14 points across 69 games played.
Obviously, he's still just 20-years-old and has the potential to be a very good player at the NHL level, but thus far, he's struggled to stand out and take his game to the level that the Rangers would have expected. At No. 30 though, this is a time to take a chance on physicality or offensive upside, and the Rangers clearly went for the former, but right now, there's no guarantee that he will be a consistent NHLer one day.
