The Calgary Flames were red-hot coming into a matchup with the Edmonton Oilers on Wednesday night, with a 5-1-0 record in their prior six games, with most of that success being owed to Devin Cooley.

Unfortunately for those excited by the promising run, the Oilers came away victorious 4-0, with the team being thoroughly outplayed from start to finish as they head towards a back-to-back over the weekend with the Seattle Kraken and Colorado Avalanche.

The game wasn't just bad for the result however, as Devin Cooley was run over by Colton Dach and left the game, and following the defeat, he took to social media to address it like only Devin Cooley can.

After being awarded the NHL's second star of the week, Cooley looked to shut down the Oilers, but unfortunately, Colton Dach ran the Flames goaltender, subsequently leading to an injury that may see the star net-minder miss some time.

As of right now, the extent of his injury and return timeline remains unclear but if the Flames were to miss him for quite some time, they may start to resemble what we saw at the beginning of the season, rather than the last seven games.

What we do have however is a comment from Cooley himself, as he took to social media to address the injury immediately, and unsurprisingly, he had a very intriguing take on the scenario that saw him injured.

"Injuries suck but I'm a very fast healer! Can't wait to be back and what a great opportunity to reset physically, mentally and find ways to gain an edge in my game off the ice so I can come back even better than before. Sometimes what we don't ever want to happen could end up being exactly what we need!"

How Will the Flames Handle Their Goaltending in a Back-to-Back?

This puts Calgary in a tough position ahead of a back-to-back slate on Friday and Saturday, and while Cooley may not be out long-term, it's highly unlikely that he'll be back in time to face either Seattle or Colorado.

What that means is that Dustin Wolf may be forced to play in both games, but will 100% be the starter tomorrow night against the Kraken, but beyond that, it's a major question mark. Following a solid start in the AHL, the team could turn to Arsenii Sergeev, who made his NHL debut in game No. 82 a year ago, beating the Los Angeles Kings, but facing the Avalanche on the road will be a much tougher ask.

As a result, it's more likely than not that the Flames will ask Wolf to be in net for both games, and once they get through that, we'll get an update on Cooley and a much clearer picture of what the foreseeable future will look like.
