The NHL Draft is, for all intents and purposes, a complete lottery, with top picks busting all the time while late round picks can turn into genuine superstars in the National Hockey League. For the Calgary Flames, simply put, they need superstars in the draft, and with the No. 6 overall pick in the 2026 NHL Draft, the opportunity is there.
While the team aren't going to land the likes of Gavin McKenna or Ivar Stenberg, the chance is there for them to land a very, very good player, and with the rebuild going well, this is another good opportunity for them to add another young piece. Looking back, there's been some great picks at No. 6 overall, and while there's been some stars, there's also been some very poor selections made.
Today, we'll take a look back over the last decade and sort the No. 6 overall pick into tiers (Star, NHLer, Still Waiting and Bust) to see what the Flames may be in for in the upcoming draft.
