The Calgary Flames were up 4-1 against the Nashville predators, but something happened and they were suddenly down 5-4 heading into the third period. They managed to take this one to overtime and win it 6-5.

The Calgary Flames had an excellent first half of the game. In their second meeting against the Nashville Predators, they were up 4-1 thanks to three different Mikes and one Dougie Hamilton. Unfortunately, they got a little too confident and blew that lead. The Preds would end up making it 5-4 after 40 minutes of play and Filip Forsberg getting a hat trick by the end of second period.

The Flames however, fortunately for my sanity, tied up the game, by no other, Mikael Backlund. Just leave it up to a Mike to save the day. They tied the game and Brian Elliott had an excellent save with less than a minute left to play to take this one to overtime.

And we all know how good the Flames are at overtime.

They won the faceoff and had possession right off the bat. It didn’t take long (43) seconds for the Flames to win this in OT. And of course, have their captain Mark Giordano to come in and save the day like he did in the game against the Vancouver Canucks where he tied the game with six seconds left to play.

This is Gio’s third straight game with a goal and many players contributed tonight.

Micheal Ferland had his first-ever multi-goal night with two goals. Mikael Backlund also had two goals tonight and came close to a hat trick in the third period. And the Flames little infant child, Johnny Gaudreau, had a four-point night tonight. Wow, if anyone was concerned about him not contributing, this was a big wake-up call.

Sean Monahan also contributed a lot tonight, with three assists. Unfortunately, no goal (again) tonight to give him that 100th goal.

In fact, seven Flames had a multi-point night tonight.

Something I, and many other people, would have liked to see is the Flames capitalizing on their powerplay. Since coming back from their bye-week, they don’t have a single powerplay goal. They have been decent on the penalty-kill, however, thankfully. Tonight though, they let in one PP goal against on just three opportunities.

Nonetheless, the Flames still won this game in overtime. This was an extremely important win for the team because they are neck and neck with the LA Kings who are also playing tonight and who look like they might win against the Colorado Avalanche.

EDIT: The Kings just won. Thanks a lot Avs.

But don’t worry Flames fans, the Calgary Flames purposely didn’t win in regulation.

Well, that’s all in this post-game recap.

Next: Flames acquire another Michael from the Coyotes

I just want to say how thankful I am for every Flames player named Mike.
